2023 Plaster Tenders Apprenticeship Graduation

CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES!!!

The Plaster Tenders Apprenticeship Program (“Program”) held a celebration honoring the hard work and dedication of (40) new Plaster Tender Journeymen on March 19, 2023. To attain journeyperson status, these graduates have completed (3) years of hard training, including at least 480 hours of classroom instruction and working 3,600 hours of on-the-job training (OJT). The OJT and classroom instruction cover the stucco, interior plaster, exterior insulation finish systems, fireproofing, and scaffolding industries. In addition, many safety and certification courses are part of the training, including OSHA 30 training, first aid and CPR, aerial boom/scissor lift, scaffold user, scaffold builder, forklift, and pump certification.

Jon P. Preciado, Business Manager of the Southern California District Council of Laborers and Chairman of the Plaster Tenders Apprenticeship & Training Trust and JAC, acknowledged the hard work and sacrifice given by these graduates and their families. “We are thankful that we’re able to celebrate our graduates’ accomplishments in person again and are very proud of every one of you,” Jon said. Jon reminded them to continuously work hard to ensure that they always give their employers an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay, encouraged them to try their best to be a good example for others to follow, and reminded them that learning is a lifelong endeavor.

Rocco Davis, Special Assistant to the General President & LiUNA Vice President and Regional Manager of Laborers International Union of North America – Pacific Southwest Region, congratulated the graduates and urged them to continue training to improve their skills, maintain their training certifications up-to-date, and pass along their knowledge to other apprentices that come behind them.

Wall and ceiling industry contractor representatives spoke highly of the apprenticeship program and the training provided by its instructors. Greg Malachowski, Vice President -Caston, Inc., praised the Program for the quality training and education each plaster tender receives while in the Apprenticeship Program. He noted that several plaster tender graduates working for his company run work as foremen.
